You are never far from nature in Poland, Czech, Slovakia, Hungary or Austria. The mountains, and above all the Tatras Mountains are an absolute delight, with a well established range of skiing, hiking and walking trails; the lakes provide opportunities for canoeing, fishing and a host of other outdoor pursuits; and the many national parks retain large tracts of Europe’s last primeval forests inhabited still by Bison, Elks, Wolves, Bears and Eagles. There are many regions of unspoilt beauty, of which none is more pristine than the Bialowieża Forest, the last virgin forest of the European mainland. Along the southern borders lay the wild Bieszczady Mountains and the alpine Tatras and further west, the bleak Karkonosze mountains – all excellent skiing, climbing, mountain biking and walking country. North of the central plain, the woodland lakeland’s of Mazury and Pomerania are extremely tranquil, yet offer great opportunities for activity holidays including sailing, horse riding, fishing, birdwatching and hiking. The Baltic coastline offers miles of unspoilt beaches and beach resorts, and no place in Europe can compare to the extraordinary desert-like dunes of the Slowinski national park. |
